A meat producers cooperative formed to provide processing and marketing services to livestock operations is raising capital with member equity shares.
By the first of the year, the North Cascades Meat Producers Cooperative expects to have its processing plant in operation.
“We’ve gotten over the hurdles of permitting from the government,” Pat Grover, president of the co-op, said. “Now we’re looking to rent space and convert it to a processing plant.”
He sent emails Sept. 5 to 191 people — mostly farmers. Before day’s end he had already been contacted by three of them.
“We expected to have a good response,” he said.
